|| Value Education ||

Value Education is the process by which teachers transmit values to the pupils. The definition of “teacher‟ is shifting to match the needs of the new curriculum, to introduce concepts, ideas and practices into our schools to help convert schooling into education to meet some of the enormous challenges of our times. Values are essential for positive human behaviour. Education from time immemorial has focused on values. Values form the core of educational goals and objectives. Almost every education policy document has emphasized the role of education in fostering values. There are two main approaches to value education. Some see it as inculcating or transmitting a set of values which often come from societal or religious values or cultural ethics. Others see it as a type of Socratic dialogue where people are gradually brought to their own realization for what is good for themselves. Value education also leads to success. It inculcates the importance of hard work among students.

The National Policy of Education (1986) also highlighted the need of education for values in removing intolerance, violence, superstition and upholding social, cultural and scientific principles to make India a secular, democratic and progressive nation taking pride in its cultural heritage. The National Curriculum Framework for School Education (2000) brought to focus the erosion of ethical, social and spiritual values and suggested the integration of values in the curriculum. The National Curriculum Framework (NCF), 2005 strongly advocates values like cooperation, respect for human rights, tolerance, justice, responsible citizenship, reverence towards democracy and peaceful conflict resolution. It also delineates education for peace as a significant national and global issue.

We at NIS provide students with value influenced learning which helps to improve the integral growth of human beings. It creates attitude and improvement towards sustainable lifestyle. It increases awareness among our students about our national history our cultural heritage, constitutional rights, national integration, community development and environment. Education at NIS believes in following Indian philosophy culture and tradition. Students recites Sholkas of Ved and perform meditation. They are taught one good habit of the day which sows the seed of moral values in them at a very tender age. The students are also taught moral, social and environmental values and they give it back to society by social initiatives like, “Vruksh Yatra” and “Clean Sanand”. All educational programmes conducted at our school aims at developing children through the provision and facilitation of certain learning experiences which form the larger curriculum of our institution. All programme begins by identification of goals and learning outcomes characteristics that we expect the children to develop. Thereafter learning exercises that will enable children to achieve the intended learning outcomes can help the children towards holistic development.

Our school has a clear approach to ensure the integrity and consistency of the effort. It helps to organize thinking and effort to train the students accordingly. Our educational policies and the subsequent curriculum frameworks all along have emphasized the need for Value Education but careful analysis reveals that we value those aspects of education that translates into academic excellence and creates opportunities for employment.
